Don't go with so much expectations seeing the name as a bird sanctuary. This is a small woodland in the city centre that you can probably explore in 30 minutes. 

There is a short trail for walking, a viewing deck that you can climb to scan the area and a tree full of bats! That's pretty much I can remember of.

Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary

My mis informed impression of Kathakali was that it was some over rated art show that few understands and enjoys. But a visit to Kathakali Centre completely changed that and I have begining to admire the art form.

It''s a bit difficult to understand what is going on in the story (they give you synopsis of the story being played in the stage which is very helpful) but the facial expressions, the costumes, the music are just brilliant. Kathakali finally left a good impression on me.

Kerala Kathakali Centre

Took some inspirations from the movie "Kumbalanghi Nights" and visited the location. Chinese fishing nets, back waters, mangrove forests - sums up everything in there but with few layers of extra beauty added to all. This location situates in a small island, it is worth doing the boat ride that show you around the island.

It's a nice place to get away from the pollution and the fast pace of Kochi.

Kumbalanghi Village

Hands down one of the best best guiding experience I ever had. We went there the previous day to checkout the views of the island and one youngster approached us with offers for kayaking. Since we were both into kayaking we agreed to do this the next day and boy this was an experience.  The views are amazing, with you kayaking through waters filled with fishing nets and fish cages. What was exceptional was the boys who explained everything to us. How Kadamakudy got its name, the legends surrounding the area, what kind of crops they grow, how the factories nearby affecting the area and the water, in what seasons does fish farms work best, the involvement of navy in the rebuilding process after the floods of 2018 and so and so on.  They even brought us to the locals fishing for "karimeen" (pearl spot) and explained to us how they do it.   For anyone who is at or visiting Kochi, Kadamakudy is a must visit. Scenic and prestine, away from the inconvenience of the city. And if anyone wants to do kayaking in Cochin, I can in a blink recommend these guys.
