Al Karak Castle

This large crusaders castle sits on the edge of a mountain, with stunning views of the towns below. The castle is separated from rest of the mountain by a moat and it is mostly in ruins. Most parts of the castle that is viewable from the groud is damaged but underneath the top, there are long stretches of dungeons, chambers and huge rooms. This castle was constructed in 1100's and played an important rule in controlling the trade routes in the area. There is a long history of sieges and battles fought to take control of this fort. In addition the the castle, there is a museum as well functioning at the place. We were there on a friday, so the museum was not open, but the castle was.
