Limburg

Limburg is the southernmost of the 12 provinces of the Netherlands. The city features a number of historic homes, cathedrals cobblestone streets. There are claims that Maastricht is the oldest city in the country, but others contest that Nijmegen holds that title. The capital city is situated within walking distance of Belgium and is just a short bike ride away from Germany. The city also boasts excellent dining spots and plenty of shops.

Brunssummerheide

An approximately 600 hectare nature reserve of the Vereniging Natuurmonumenten ; this concerns in particular the so-called Schrieversheide. On the other hand, this is also the name for the approximately 1800 hectare recreational area in which this nature reserve is located. The recreation area 'Brunssummerheide' is located in the province of Limburg , in the southeast of the municipality of Brunssum and adjacent municipalities of Heerlen and Landgraaf.

Castle Strijthagen ArtLand

A majestic and beautiful estate on the territory of the Dutch Limburg municipality of Landgraaf, located in the Strijthagerbeek valley, at the heart of Schaesberg. It was built in the 18th century on the site of an older castle. The walls of the main building consist of so-called bacon layers. The castle complex also consists of the classicist steward's house, the 17th-century white-plastered outer bailey, the watermill called Strijthagermolen, and the coach house.

Cauberg

The Cauberg is a slope in Valkeberg in Dutch Limburg . The Cauberg is known for its cycling race ; the slope is incorporated into the course of väöl wedsjtrieje. The finish of the Amstel Gold Race 2003 lies at the top of the Cauberg; the riders need to climb the Cauberg a few gaps in this race. In 1938 , 1948 , 1979 and 1998 the Cauberg was part of the route of ' t Waereld Kampioensjap bicycle race.

De Hamert

De Hamert is an estate and nature reserve in the municipality of Bergen in the Dutch province of Limburg. The more than 1000 ha estate with forest, heath and water is owned by the foundation Het Limburgs Landschap. De Hamert is part of De Maasduinen National Park. The area is crisscrossed with walking routes and popular with bird watchers.

Gemeentegrot

The Gemeentegrot, in the Dutch Limburg town of Valkenburg is a limestone quarry where marl was extracted until the 1950s.The marl originated in the time when South Limburg was still a sea. This also explains the large amount of shells that are still in the marl. The Romans were already busy mining marl in the Municipal Cave, among others. The cave was mapped in the 1960s by G. Essers. Works of art in the form of drawings or sculptures have been placed in many places in the quarry.

IJzeren Man

De IJzeren Man is a 100 ha nature and recreation area located in Dutch Limburg. The area is located west of Weert and is part of Grenspark Kempen~Broek , which covers an area of ​​25,000 ha and is located in both the Netherlands and Belgium. The area is part of the outskirts of Altweerterheide and the Kazernelaanbuurt.

Labyrint Drielandenpunt

Mariapeel

The Mariapeel is a raised bog -like nature reserve in the municipality of Horst aan de Maas in the Dutch province of Limburg . It is approximately 1400 hectares and is managed by Staatsbosbeheer . Together with Deurnese Peel and the Grauwveen , it has been a protected wetland since 1993 . As a Natura 2000 area it is known as Deurnsche Peel & Mariapeel . The Mergelland route is a tourist route mapped out by the ANWB and runs through one of the hilliest parts of the Netherlands , namely South Limburg. The Mergelland route is a popular and often driven route for holidaymakers through the Limburg Heuvelland with a length of 110 kilometers by car and motorcycle or 127 kilometers by bicycle.

Mookerplas

The Mookerplas is a recreation area in the Dutch Limburg municipality of Mook en Middelaar. The area is 100 hectares and is located east of the river Maas. There is a large sandy beach with a large sunbathing lawn and there is also a smaller surfing beach and a meadow where small boats can moor.

Savelsbos

The Savelsbos is a 6 km long, often narrow belt of hillside forests on the eastern slope of the Maas valley east and south-east of Maastricht and located between the villages of Cadier en Keer , Gronsveld , Eckelrade , Sint Geertruid , Moerslag and Rijckholt . One of the hills in the area is the Sint-Jansberg, which is also called Kloosterberg.The area is characterized by wooded slopes and many streams . There are also some wetlands at the foot of the Jansberg. The two highest slopes are the Kiekberg and the Sint-Maartensberg . Some flat areas are used for agriculture.
