Northernmost massif of the Berchtesgaden Alps, a prominent spur straddling the border between Berchtesgaden, Germany and Salzburg, Austria. Tjhe Salzburger Hochthron is the second highest peak of the Untersberg massif in the Berchtesgaden Alps after the Berchtesgadener Hochthron. In addition to the short ascent from the Untersbergbahn, several marked trails lead to the summit of the Salzburger Hochthron, these require surefootedness and good physical condition.
The Untersberg is a mountain range with an extension of about 70 km² in the southwest of the Flachgau on the border with Bavaria.It is one of the most popular recreational spaces in Salzburg. The Untersbergbahn has been taking hikers, winter-sports enthusiasts and nature-lovers up the mountain and back to the valley since 1961.
