About Natuurgebied Oranjezon

Oranjezon is a Dutch nature reserve of approximately 400 hectares on the Zeeland Walcheren near Vrouwenpolder. Until 1995 it was used as a water extraction area. The area provided drinking water for Middelburg and later Walcheren ; an open water extraction channel was dug for this purpose as part of the employment provision. Although the area no longer serves as a water extraction area, the pumping station of the same name is still being maintained.
