After it lost its function as a site for large-scale test installations for flood defenses and dams, a swamp forest developed .

Het Zwarte Meer is a Dutch lake on the border of the provinces of Flevoland and Overijssel. was created in the 1940s by the construction of the Noordoostpolder to the west of it . The lake is 1700 hectares in size and belongs to the Randmeren Noord of the IJsselmeer. PIER+HORIZON by Paul de Kort lies in the Zwarte Meer lake in the Noordoostpolder. This landscape artwork follows the line to Oud Kraggenburg, along what used to be a breakwater.
