Urk Lighthouse - 4 Things to Know Before Visiting

Museum Het Oude Raadhuis is housed in the former town hall of Urk from 1905. The museum illustrates the history of the former island Urk and its residents. A centerpiece in the museum is the authentic fisherman's house which is decorated as was common in the 20th century in Urk. The house includes a net loft, a well and a bedstead. In the summer, there are volunteers dressed in costumes in the house. Upstairs changing exhibitions are on display.

Urkerbos is located in Flevoland, at the bottom of the former Zuiderzee, On a lovely quiet place, in the middle of a forest and nature and close to historical Urk near the IJsselmeer Vakantiepark. IJsseloog is an artificial island in the middle of the Ketelmeer that aims to store contaminated sludge from the bottom of the lake. It also has a recreation and nature development function. The island owes its name to its location in front of the mouth of the IJssel and to the shape of the sludge depot, round like an eye,so that the contact surface of the sludge depot with the environment is as small as possible. In addition, the word "oog" is an old Dutch word for island.

The Observatory is a landscape artwork in the Dutch province of Flevoland . It was designed by American artist Robert Morris. The 'Observatory' is intended to allow people to consciously experience the rhythms of day and night and the change of four seasons . The work is strongly inspired by ancient rock formations such as Stonehenge , which also celebrated the changing of the seasons. The Observatory is a clock , calendar and temple at the same time.
