Schokland was a peninsula that by the 15th century had become an island. Occupied and then abandoned as the sea encroached, it had to be evacuated in 1859.

A beautiful musuem which was located on a medieval mound of a former island. Presenting a picture of the geology and archeology of the Noordoostpolder, the museum offers a unique view of the island’s history and the way of life of its former inhabitants. It symbolizes the heroic, age-old struggle of the people of the Netherlands against the encroachment of the waters.

IJsseloog is an artificial island in the middle of the Ketelmeer that aims to store contaminated sludge from the bottom of the lake. It also has a recreation and nature development function. The island owes its name to its location in front of the mouth of the IJssel and to the shape of the sludge depot, round like an eye,so that the contact surface of the sludge depot with the environment is as small as possible. In addition, the word "oog" is an old Dutch word for island.

The Poldertoren is a water tower in the center of Emmeloord . The tower was built between 1957 and 1959 . With a height of 65.30 meters, this water tower is one of the tallest water towers in the Netherlands. The tower has a large carillon . The tower, which no longer serves as a water tower, has been a national monument since 2014. The tower houses, among other things, the tourist office with ANWB shop, an office and, at the height of the clock, restaurant Sonoy with a Michelin star.

Museum Het Oude Raadhuis is housed in the former town hall of Urk from 1905. The museum illustrates the history of the former island Urk and its residents. A centerpiece in the museum is the authentic fisherman's house which is decorated as was common in the 20th century in Urk. The house includes a net loft, a well and a bedstead. In the summer, there are volunteers dressed in costumes in the house. Upstairs changing exhibitions are on display.
