Grüner See is a lake in Styria, Austria in a village named Tragöß. The lake is surrounded by forests and three mountains. Salza is a stream in Styria. It originates on the mountain Traisenberg in Lower Austria and flows South of Mariazell through the Styrian nature preserve Wildalpener Salzatal. The Lunzer See is a body of water at the foot of the Dürrenstein not far from the town of Lunz am See . It is considered to be the only naturally occurring and the coldest lake in Lower Austria. The Murinsel, is actually not an island at all, but an artificial floating platform in the middle of the Mur river. Mur Island is in the form of a giant sea shell and measures 47 m in length. Two footbridges connect it with both banks of the Mur. The center of the platform forms an amphitheatre. The arty island was the creation of American artist, Vito Acconci who wanted the ultra-modern construction to evoke a giant sea shell.

The Reichraminger Hintergebirge is considered the largest closed and practically uninhabited forest area in Austria and belongs to a large extent to the Kalkalpen National Park.
