Toirano is an Italian town of 2 681 inhabitants in the province of Savona in Liguria. The valley probably housed a settlement already in Roman times: the findings of traces of walls in the locality of Poggi dated to the first century. Toirano borders the following municipalities: Balestrino, Bardineto, Boissano, Borghetto Santo Spirito, Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena, and Ceriale. The town centre is located on the Varatella banks.

The cave complex is managed directly by the Municipality of Borgio Verezzi. They are a classic example of a karst phenomenon, whose structure has been generated over time by the slow erosion of water through the rock.
The Arroscia is a large stream in Liguria, about 36 km long, which flows in the provinces of Imperia and Savona. It was born in the Ligurian Alps in the province of Imperia from the Guardia Pass at over 2,000 meters above sea level, flowing very impetuously and encased, also forming a beautiful waterfall near Mendatica.
