Bavaria has a unique culture, largely because of the state's former Catholic majority and conservative traditions. Bavarians have traditionally been proud of their culture, which includes a language, cuisine, architecture, and festivals. Founded in 1002 by Emperor Heinrich II and consecrated in 1012. After the first two cathedrals burned down in the 11th and 12th centuries, the current structure with four large towers, was built in the 13th century. The church contains many works of art, including the marble tomb of the founder and his wife, the Empress Kunigunde.
