This temple is located at Karur and is one of the seven sivasthalams in Kongu Nadu. It is clear that the temple existed during the reign of the king Rajendra Chola.

It is constructed beyond Preumalmalai and Chemmalai. The tourism around the dam is promoted by the Tamil Nadu Department of Tourism. A large number of local people and outsiders visit the dam. There is a bridge without any support of piers on the Ponnaniyaru Dam. It is known as a hanging bridge and offers you the panoramic view of lush green forest and hills.
