Botanical Gardens to Explore in Groningen
The Oude Hortus is a publicly accessible garden in the Hortusbuurt in the city of Groningen. The garden, located between Grote Rozenstraat and Grote Kruisstraat, was founded in 1626 by pharmacist and amateur botanist Hendrick Munting. The garden is still home to many species of animals and especially plants, including several species of stinsen plants , such as the imperial crown , wild garlic and winter aconite .
The Haren Hortus Botanicus is located a few kilometres south of the city of Groningen, and provides a varied selection of themed gardens on a terrain of no less than 20 hectares.
The Prinsentuin is a garden built in renaissance style that is located in Groningen. Behind the Prinsenhof,this Garden consists of a rose garden, a herb garden, a part with berceaus and a sundial on the wall above the entrance. On the side of the Turfsingel the garden is fenced of by a high wall. On one side you can still see a bit of the blu wall, that once stood optop of this wall.
