8 Lake/ River/ Ponds to Explore in Aosta

The Lake Agnel is an artificial lake of Piedmont, located in the valley of Orco, in the municipality of Ceresole Reale, along the road from this salt to Nivolet hill, just above the lake Serru. It is part of the complex of artificial lakes and powering various hydroelectric plants. This lake is famous in cinematography for being the location of the final scene of the 1969 film An Italian Shot.

The Blue Lake or Lake Layet is a lake with origins in the dam which is located just below Breuil-Cervinia in the Aosta Valley. Not far away is the bobsleigh track of Lago Blu, which from 1963 to 1991 hosted numerous international bobsleigh competitions. The lake can be reached by car or on foot from Cervinia in 5 and 20 minutes respectively. The real name is Lago Layet, but it is called Blue because some algae reflect these shades of color at the bottom of the lake.

The lake Arpy is a lake basin of the Valle d'Aosta. It is Of glacial origin, enclosed between Mont Charvet, Becca Pouegnenta, and Mount Colmet. It has become the second most important body of water in Armenia, next to Lake Sevan. It is used for irrigation and hydropower production. The lake is fed by meltwater and four streams, and it is the source of the Akhurian River.

The Lake Miage is a small pool of water that is located in Valle d'Aosta at 2020 m above sea level at the foot of the massif of Mont Blanc, in Val Veny. Its waters are fed by the homonymous glacier. Characteristic of the lake is the interesting and spectacular phenomenon that has occurred for over two centuries: the detachment of icebergs from the ice cliff in contact with the lake.

The lake is located under Mount Charvaz, at 2019 meters above sea level, and can be reached by chairlift from Chamois, when it is open. From here you can see all the peaks that surround the town, ranging from Cima Longhede to the Château des Dames. On the shores of the lake there is a picnic area equipped with tables, barbecues, and fountains.

The lake Gabiet is a reservoir of Valle d'Aosta. The basin is located in the Lys valley above Gressoney-La-Trinité at an altitude of 2,373 m asl and feeds the Gressoney-La-Trinité hydroelectric plant and allows the generation of 11 MW, with a production of 14.5 GWh / year. The dam that made up the lake, made by a massive gravity dam, was built between 1919 and 1922. The lake can be reached via the gondola that goes from Stafal to just below the lake.

The lake Misérin is located in the upper Champorcher valley at an altitude of 2,577 m above sea level. The church is the destination at the beginning of August of a historic pilgrimage that brings together faithful from both the Soana Valley. The lake area is a good point of view on the peaks of the valley, including the Rosa dei Banchi and Mont Glacier. The Ayasse stream takes shape from the waters of the lake and runs through the entire Champorcher valley.

The Lake Place-Moulin is located in the municipality of Bionaz in the Valpelline, side valley of Valle d'Aosta at a height of 1968 m above sea level. It is an artificial lake formed by the waters of the Buthier stream, a stream that cuts through the entire Valpelline. It is one of the largest lakes in the Aosta Valley, together with Lake Beauregard in Valgrisenche, and measures about 4 km in length. The dam, one of the largest barrages in Europe, was built between 1955 and 1965.
