3 Mountain Passes to Explore in Aargau

This rather unknown pass in the canton of Aargau connects Aarau and Frick. Located directly below the Wasserflue mountain (866 m), the Benkerjoch is not only preferable to the Staffelegg because of the low traffic. A postal bus route runs over the pass to Aarau. It was built in the year of 1977.

The Salhöhe route takes you from Gelterkinden, in the Basel area, through the beautiful Jura landscapes with its hidden castle ruins to the Salhöhe Pass. Gelterkinden lies in the Ergolztal valley, nestled in wooded hills close to the ruins of Scheidegg castle. The pass road has a maximum grade of 9 percent. Although it is the shortest route between Aarau and Basel, traffic over the pass is moderate.

Staffelegg at 621 m altitude is one of the lowest Jura mountain passes. Bedded into the characteristic folds of the Jura Mountains, it is surrounded by several accessible peaks such as the Wasserflue and Gisliflue. The views from here are truly astonishing and it attracts a lot of tourists here.
