2 Zoos to Explore in Carinthia

The Affenberg Landskron is a zoo in Villach and at the same time Austria's largest monkey enclosure with around 160 Japanese macaques . The keeping of animals is semi-free compared to other zoos, which means that the animals live in a fenced, wooded property, which represents a 40,000 m² habitat for the monkeys. The Affenberg is a category A zoo operation under Austrian law. It has around 120,000 visitors annually and does not receive any public funding.

The animal population shows a cross-section through the reptile world living today: from the largest giant snake in the world, the reticulated python; to the most venomous snake in the world, the taipan; the largest venomous snake in the world, the king cobra or various lizards such as crocodiles and rhinoceros iguanas. According to its own information, it is the largest and most species-rich reptile zoo in Austria.
