It is called Forlenweier in Alsatian and reïf tou blan in Welsch . it is nestled in a large glacial cirque surrounded by steep slopes culminating at 1,303 meters. The one side of the lake has been made in to a barrage to regulate the flow of water into the Fecht. This lake was located in a picturesque location which was in the middle of woods and is also a calm and quiet area too.

It is one of the best known and most frequented trails in the Vosges mountains and also one of the most accident-prone.
