Museum of Fine Arts Dijon - 4 Things to Know Before Visiting

Built between 1652 and 1681 by Etienne Lantin. The museum was housed in one of the most beautiful private mansions in Dijon. The collection consists of around 1300 paintings, 700 drawings, and a set of furniture and works of art. It is the work of Maurice Magnin, high Parisian magistrate, and of his sister Jeanne, amateur painter and art critic.

Place de la Liberation, literally the “place of the liberation” in English, sits at the historic center of Dijon France. It is designed in a semicircle and anchored on one side by the palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. The square’s current look is the result of a facelift it received in 2005-2006. Three fountains were installed and its surface was covered with the local Comblanchien limestone, known for its beautiful beige color.

The Church was registered in 1862 into Monuments historiques. It is a remarkable example of a Gothic church from the School of Champagne.

Dijon Cathedral, or at greater length the Cathedral of Saint Benignus of Dijon, is a Roman Catholic church located in the town of Dijon, Burgundy, France, and dedicated to Saint Benignus of Dijon. The Gothic cathedral building, constructed between 1280 and 1325, and dedicated on 9 April 1393, is a listed national monument. it became the seat of the Diocese of Dijon during the French Revolution, replacing the previous cathedral when it was secularised.

One of the beautiful botanical gardens which stretching over 5.5 hectares, the Arquebuse serves as a botanical garden, arboretum and park. Founded by the scientist Benigne Legouz de Gerland, the botanical garden houses and cultivates around 3500 indigenous species of plants. A great place to relax, the garden reflects natural charm with flower borders and lawns along with alleys shaded by a variety of tree species.
