Breheimen National Park - 4 Things to Know Before Visiting

Reinheimen National Park is a 2.1 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Nordberg, Innlandet, Norway that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips. The park is one of the largest wilderness areas still intact in Western Norway.

A beautiful mountain with mind-blowing peaks and views, which is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. It is also a nice trekking destination too. A lot of tourists visit this place every year.

Galdhøpiggen is the tallest mountain in Norway, Scandinavia, and Northern Europe, at 2,469 m above sea level. It is in the municipality of Lom in Innlandet county and in the Jotunheimen mountain area. During the ice ages, it was heavily glaciated and got its present form. The theory that the highest summits in Norway stayed above the ice as nunataks have been abandoned by most geologists.

The Breheimsenteret is a museum and one of the three visitors centers for Jostedalsbreen National Park. The center was generally open from 1 May until 1 October. The center lay near to the glacier arm Nigardsbreen.

Kyrkja is a mountain of Innlandet in southern Norway. Kyrkja is nicknamed “The Chruch” because its peak is extremely steep and resembles a church spire. Kyrkyja was thought to be unclimbable until the 19th century, due to its steepness. Despite its slopes, climbing to the top is a day’s hike, helped by the rocks covering the mountainside. Kyrkyja used to be covered in snow, but climate change has severely lessened the amount of snow on the mountain.

The beautiful church dates back to 1158-59, which was still the main church in Lom. The oldest part was built in Romanesque style. By archeological excavations in 1973 interesting findings were made; more than 2.000 coins and a love message with carved runes on a stick and this church has the largest collection of paintings found in any Norwegian church, most of them done by Eggert Munch.
