It also contains animals from the Himalayan peaks and from the lower western ghats. UNESCO designated it as a biosphere reserve in 2009.

Dhoopgarh is the highest point in the Mahadeo Hills in Satpura range which has an elevation of 1,352 metres. It is not only the highest point of Panchmarhi but also the highest point of Madhya pradesh and Central India.
