About Butt Memorial Bridge

The Butt Memorial Bridge is a historic bridge Built in 1950, this bridge originally connected the cities of Hephzibah and Augusta across Sweetwater Creek. It serves to honor World War I veteran Maj. William Humphreys Butt, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The steel truss arch bridge features an impressive 256 foot center span, which soars above the creek below tilting downwards at each end to create a stunning and picturesque scene.
