The turnoff for Lizard Head Pass is located just past mile marker145 on Highway 145. Once you reach the pass, follow the signs to Lizard Head. The drive from Durango to Lizard Head takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

There is no entrance fee to explore Lizard Head, San Miguel County, Colorado. However, there are many areas of the park that require a permit for access. The most popular permit is the backcountry camping permit, which allows visitors to camp in the backcountry for up to 14 days.
