And of course, no visit to Treasure Falls would be complete without taking a dip in the refreshing waters of the stream. Visitors can also enjoy picnicking, and fishing in the area, and the views from the falls are simply breathtaking.

The falls were formed by glacial activity during the last ice age, and they are currently the tallest waterfall in Colorado. The falls were first discovered by Native Americans, who considered them to be a sacred place. In the early 1800s, Spanish explorers visited the falls and named them "La Cascada del Tesoro," which means "treasure waterfall." The falls remained largely unknown until 1879 when they were featured in a book about the area's natural wonders. Since then, Treasure Falls has become a popular destination for hikers, picnickers, and nature lovers.

The best time to visit Treasure Falls is during the summer months. The trail to the falls is open from June 1st to September 30th, and the weather is typically mild during this time of year. However, visitors should be aware that the trail can be crowded on weekends and holidays.

3. There is no cell phone service at Treasure Falls, so be sure to tell someone where you are going before you leave.

 To reach Treasure Falls, take Highway 550 north from Durango for about 25 miles. Just past mile marker 68, you will see a sign for the falls. Follow the road to the parking area, and then take the short trail to the falls. 

The fall is easily accessible and tehre is no entrance fee. 

The hours of operation are from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
