Cucharas Pass is a high mountain pass located on the boundary of Huerfano and Las Animas counties, in south central Colorado in the United States. The road winds its way through Cuchara, where you will begin to see the old volcanic dykes of Stonewall, Colorado. The Cuchara river will accompany you through most of your Northern journey. The region gets its name from the spoon-like shape of the valley, with "cuchara" being the Spanish word for "spoon."

The Spanish Peaks Wilderness is a 19,226 acres wilderness area in Huerfano County. The wilderness area is only around 19,000 acres wide and is contained entirely in Colorado. It is managed by the US Forest Service. The Peaks have traditional and religious significance to American Indian tribes including the Apache, Comanche, and Ute.

Cuchara Mountain Park in Cuchara, Colorado is home to 50 acres of natural, forested land that provides seasonal outdoor recreation.For skiing and snowboarding, there are 6 km of slopes available. 1 lift transports the guests. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 2,819 and 3,294 m.

Trinchera Peak is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3.860m above the sea level, located at the cornerstone of three counties in southern Colorado. As the cornerstone of three counties--Huerfano, Las Animas, and Costilla--the western slope is entirely on private land and unfortunately is not open to the public. The eastern slope is accessible from the Blue Lake area as well as the Purgatorie Campground.

Cuatro Peak is a peak in Colorado and has an elevation of 13494 feet. Cuatro Peak is situated north of Mount Maxwell, and south of 'Leaning South Peak'.This range encompasses mountains such as: Vermeijo Peak, Napolean Peak, Cuatro Peak, State Line Peak and towns like Segundo, Trinidad, La Veta and the Spanish Peaks State Wildlife Area.

Francisco Fort Museum is a regional museum with a collection representing multiple eras. Where Legends Roam. They house the heirlooms of Huerfano County including locally and nationally important collections of Native American, Spanish settler, and pioneer artifacts. The Museum is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
