About Matterhorn Peak
Matterhorn Peak is the highest peak in the Sawtooth Ridge group, a series of sharp granite peaks and spires on Sierra Nevada crest. It is the tallest peak in the craggy Alps-like Sawtooth Ridge and the northernmost 12,000-foot peak in the Sierra Nevada. Wetterhorn PeakLocated in the San Juan Mountains and standing at 14,015 feet above sea level, Wetterhorn is the 49th highest peak in Colorado. It is located in the Uncompahgre Wilderness of the northern San Juan Mountains, in northwestern Hinsdale County and southeastern Ouray County, 9 miles east of the town of Ouray. It lies 2.75 mi west of Uncompahgre Peak.The standard, and only common, route on Wetterhorn Peak is the southeast ridge, which is accessed via the Matterhorn Creek.
Uncompahgre PeakUncompahgre Peak is the 6th highest mountain in Colorado, with a great route up to it’s summit. Hiking Uncompahgre Peak is long and tiring, however you can shave off a good bit of distance with a 4WD vehicle with good clearance. The most popular route for climbing Uncompahgre Peak is Uncompahgre National Forest Service Trail Number 239, which starts from the end of the Nellie Creek Road, east-southeast of the peak.
Coxcomb PeakCoxcomb Peak is a stunning sight in Ouray County. The peak is known for its brilliant red color, which is said to be caused by a high concentration of iron oxide in the rock. This is one of the area's most popular hiking destinations, and the views from the summit are truly incredible. Nellie Creek TrailheadA good trekking destination located in the heart of Hisdale forests and is generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 4 h 27 min to complete. This trail is great for birding, trail running, and walking.
Precipice PeakPrecipice Peak is a 13,144-foot-elevation mountain summit located in Hinsdale County, of Colorado. It is part of the San Juan Mountains which is a subset of the Rocky Mountains, and is situated west of the Continental Divide. Topographic relief is significant as the west aspect rises 2,500 feet. A good trekking destination and also there are so many things to see and do.
