New York Mountain - 4 Things to Know Before Visiting

Mount Jackson is a high and prominent mountain summit in the northern Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains of North America. Sylvan Lake State Park is a Colorado state park located in Eagle County, 10 miles south of Eagle, Colorado. The 1,548-acre park established in 1987 and surrounded by the White River National Forest includes a 42-acre lake and 1.5 miles of trails. Facilities include a visitors center, boat ramp, campsites, cabins, yurts and picnic sites.

The 122,797-acre wilderness with 164 miles of trails was established in 1980 in the San Isabel and White River national forests near Leadville. It is a rugged and beautiful backcountry with many satisfying routes and experiences. The Holy Cross Wilderness has a history of many hikers, often those who are unprepared, becoming endangered. Primarily, the hikers who require rescue are unfamiliar with the risks of entering wilderness areas

The Beaver Lake Trail begins at the base of the Beaver Creek Ski Area and continues past Beaver Lake at 3.3 miles, ending at Turquoise Lakes: This trail follows Beaver Creek as you hike through aspens and thimbleberry on an old wagon trail then onto singletrack up through coniferous forest to the Holy Cross Wilderness boundary at mile 3. From here you are only 0.3 miles from Beaver Lake.
