About Slot Haamstede

Slot Haamstede is an old castle located in the village of Haamstede on Schouwen-Duiveland . The most famous inhabitant of this castle was Witte van Haamstede , a bastard son of Count Floris V . The keep of the castle dates from the thirteenth century . In 1525 the castle was destroyed by fire, but the keep was preserved. The castle was later rebuilt.

A stair of 226 steps, in stone and partially in iron, leads to the top. The lighthouse is unattended.
