The Haren Hortus Botanicus is located a few kilometres south of the city of Groningen, and provides a varied selection of themed gardens on a terrain of no less than 20 hectares.

Sassenhein is a private nature reserve in the municipality of Groningen , located south of the village of Haren. The area consists of two lakes , the Noordplas and the Zuidplas. There is a pavilion at the Noordplas. The lakes are especially popular with fishermen and nature lovers.

Park Groenestein is a park forest in the southern Helpman district in the city of Groningen.  This park is characterized by a varied flora and fauna , including squirrels, bats, hedgehogs and many species of birds. There are also a few fens and a number of monumental trees , some of which are more than 100 years old.

The Van Ketwich Verschuurbrug is a vertical lift bridge in the city of Groningen over the Noord-Willemskanaal. The bridge is located where the Van Ketwich Verschuurlaan changes into the Laan Corpus den Hoorn and is the southernmost bridge over the Noord-Willemskanaal in the municipality of Groningen. This bridge, together with the Van Iddekinge bridge, forms the connection between the De Wijert and Corpus den Hoorn districts.

The Onnerpolder is a nature reserve and a former water board in the province of Groningen. The Oostpolder and the Onnerpolder have traditionally been real meadow bird areas. Nationally, meadow birds are declining drastically and Het Groninger Landschap is taking a number of measures to prevent this in the Oost- and Onnerpolder.

The Paterswoldsemeer is a lake southwest of the Dutch city of Groningen on the border of the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe.Due to its location near Groningen, the lake is popular with boating enthusiasts, especially sailors. The Hoornsemeer, and more in particular the Hoornseplas, is popular with swimmers and sunbathers.
