Groningen City Hall - 4 Things to Know Before Visiting

The Martinikerkis the oldest church in Groningen. The church and its associated tower are named after Saint Martin of Tours, the patron saint of the Bishopric of Utrecht to which Groningen belonged. The church was a cathedral for a short period during the first bishopric of Groningen. Its organ contains stops dating back to 1450, and was rebuilt and enlarged by Arp Schnitger among others.

GRID Graphic Museum Groningen is a museum in the Dutch city of Groningen that is dedicated to the graphic arts and crafts . It is also a training center for graphic techniques and regularly hosts exhibitions of graphic artists. Until the beginning of 2015, it was located in the Rivierenbuurt , near the Groningen main station . Since 2015, the museum has been located on Sint Jansstraat, next to the Martinikerk and the Grote Markt , with a view of Forum Groningen .

The University Museum has been a science museum since 1934 in the academic heart of the student city of Groningen. The collection consists of objects related to nature, culture and science. The exhibitions of the museum include a collection of flowers and seeds, an anatomical and pathological collection, a psychological collection, an anthropological collection and objects related to Aletta Jacobs' s, the first Dutch female doctor.

The Korenbeurs is one of those buildings in Groningen with a very impressive façade. This is where grain was traded during the heyday of the Groningen grain cultivation. Traders met here to score high prices for their product. The building is a rijksmonument since 1971 and is one of the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites that was selected in 1990.

The Prinsentuin is a garden built in renaissance style that is located in Groningen.  Behind the Prinsenhof,this Garden consists of a rose garden, a herb garden, a part with berceaus and a sundial on the wall above the entrance. On the side of the Turfsingel the garden is fenced of by a high wall. On one side you can still see a bit of the blu wall, that once stood optop of this wall.

The synagogue is a Jewish building completed in 1906 at Folkingestraat 60 in the Dutch city ​​of Groningen . On the Nieuwstad side , the building adjoins the older Rabbinaatshuis from 1890. Behind the building are remnants of the former Zwaantjesgang.The building is characterized by its neo-Moorish style , with many oriental horseshoe and keyhole arches in the windows and galleries. It is the last and most exuberant example of this style in the Netherlands.
