Grafisch Museum Groningen - 4 Things to Know Before Visiting

The Martinikerkis the oldest church in Groningen. The church and its associated tower are named after Saint Martin of Tours, the patron saint of the Bishopric of Utrecht to which Groningen belonged. The church was a cathedral for a short period during the first bishopric of Groningen. Its organ contains stops dating back to 1450, and was rebuilt and enlarged by Arp Schnitger among others.

The Prinsentuin is a garden built in renaissance style that is located in Groningen.  Behind the Prinsenhof,this Garden consists of a rose garden, a herb garden, a part with berceaus and a sundial on the wall above the entrance. On the side of the Turfsingel the garden is fenced of by a high wall. On one side you can still see a bit of the blu wall, that once stood optop of this wall.

Groningen City Hall is the seat of government in Groningen, the Netherlands. The city council meets in a modern room downstairs, but upstairs in the former raadszaal the Gulden Boek is kept that lists the honored citizens of the town.The building was designed by the architect Jacob Otten Husly who won the commission in 1775 as the result of a prize competition that was set out by his personal friend, the council member and ex-amsterdam professor Petrus Camper.

The University Museum has been a science museum since 1934 in the academic heart of the student city of Groningen. The collection consists of objects related to nature, culture and science. The exhibitions of the museum include a collection of flowers and seeds, an anatomical and pathological collection, a psychological collection, an anthropological collection and objects related to Aletta Jacobs' s, the first Dutch female doctor.

The Sint Anthonygasthuis is a guest house in the city of Groningen . It is located on the Rademarkt opposite the police headquarters. The guest house was founded in 1517 and was partly built with stones from the demolished Edzard Castle across the road. It was located on the edge of the former city, against the city wall. That location must have been deliberately chosen, because it originally also served as a plague house.

The Korenbeurs is one of those buildings in Groningen with a very impressive façade. This is where grain was traded during the heyday of the Groningen grain cultivation. Traders met here to score high prices for their product. The building is a rijksmonument since 1971 and is one of the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites that was selected in 1990.
