A majestic lighthouse on the Dutch island Schiermonnikoog, one of the Frisian Islands, on the edge of the North Sea; the other is the South Tower. It was built by H.G. Jansen & A. van Rhyn, and was activated in 1854. From the tower, weather reports are issued for the coastal waters. In 1998 it was painted red.

Schiermonnikoog is one of the five Wadden Islands. The island is characterized by diverse landscapes including beaches, dunes, forests, tidal marshes, polders, lakes and tidal flats.The island arose during the last glacial period and its shape has been very variable since then. Dominant processes are sand drifting, erosion and sedimentation along the coasts, characteristic for a tidal landscape.

Rif is a sandbank in the Dutch Wadden Sea, lying between Ameland and Schiermonnikoog, north of Engelsmanplaat. The sandbank has an area of 0.9 square kilometres at high tide and is popular as a high-tide resting area for birds as well as for seals. Additionally, the sandbank is a breeding place for birds and seals use it to give birth on.

De Peazemerlannen is a nature reserve of 485 hectares near Paesens and Moddergat in the north of Friesland . This area outside the dykes is part of the Wadden Sea World Heritage and a transition area between the sea dyke and the mud flats of the Wadden Sea. The area is frequented by bird species such as brent goose , barnacle goose and avocet. The beaches created by the breached dike provide a breeding ground for some pairs of the ringed plover and the sand plover.

Museum 't Fiskershúske is a small open -air museum in Moddergat in the Dutch province of Friesland . It shows how people in the Moddergat area used to live mainly from fishing. The museum consists of several fishermen's houses and outbuildings that have been preserved in situ and some have been restored to an earlier state. Some buildings are decorated, others are used for thematic exhibitions.
