The Almtal is a valley in the Traunviertel in the Upper Austrian Alps through which the Alm flows. As the Lower Almtal , the valley area is one of the 41 Upper Austrian spatial units ; as the Almtal tourist region , it is part of the Salzkammergut . It stretches between the Trauntal in the west and Kremstal in the east for about 25 km in the Upper Austrian Pre-Alps.

A beautiful lake between the mountains in the Upper Austrian part of the Salzkammergut and neighbour to the larger Traunsee. Traunstein is the highest mountain on the east bank of Traunsee in the district of Gmunden, Austria. As measured by the height above sea level of its summit it is 1,691 metres high. Because of its almost vertical walls ending directly in the lake and secluded, advanced position Traunstein looks like a boulder in the landscape. Kremsmünster Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Kremsmünster in Upper Austria . It has been the spiritual and economic center of the region since it was founded in 777 . The monastery is also known for the observatory and for the grammar school. The Kremsmünster Abbey Library is one of the largest and oldest in Austria. The magnificent 65-metre long room contains about 160,000 volumes, the most famous of which is the Codex Millenarius dating from around 800.
