Windsor Great ParkWindsor Great Park covers 4,800 acres, parts of which are open to the public. Its present area was determined in the 1360s and was popular with Saxon kings as a hunting forest. Take a wander along the famous Long Walk, the end of which is marked by the impressive Copper Horse statue which depicts King George III.
Royal Windsor RacecourseRoyal Windsor Racecourse, is a thoroughbred horse racing venue located in Windsor, Berkshire Set in 165 acres of beautiful countryside on its very own island surrounded by the River Thames, Royal Windsor Racecourse makes for a unique venue. Perfect for anything from small scale meetings to large outdoor events, this venue offers 165 acres of outdoor space and 1,000m2 of indoor space to make use of.
Alexandra GardensAlexandra Gardens is a pretty public garden near the River Thames in Windsor with seating, a bandstand and plenty of grassed areas perfect for picnics. There are lovely big trees and lovely colourful garden displays at various times during the year. The park is fenced on almost all sides so easy to contain small children and let them run and explore at a distance. There is a small fun fair that caters for children and I felt the rides were very reasonably priced.
Dorney LakeDorney Lake is a purpose-built rowing lake in England. It is near the village of Dorney, Buckinghamshire, and is around 3 km (2 miles) west of Windsor and Eton, close to the River Thames. Open to the public all year round, come and experience the awe inspiring 2,200m Olympic Standard Lake or explore the 400 acres of Arboretum Parkland boasting over 30,000 trees of both native and exotic species.
The Long WalkThe Long Walk is the straight path that links Windsor Castle with Snow Hill in Windsor Great Park. It measures 2.64 miles in length. So a run there and back is a great distance for joggers and is a very popular route for walkers too.
Windsor & Royal Borough MuseumA majestic local history museum where you can discover the history of the town and the area. Listen to the stories of people who lived and worked here. This museum is accommodated within Windsor Guildhall which is a Grade 1 listed building. The museum is managed as part of the local authority of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead.
