The National Archaeological Museum of Metaponto is a museum located in Metaponto, in Basilicata. It houses the main artifacts found in the area surrounding the ancient Metaponto and some artifacts from the nearby area of Pisticci and from the archaeological area of Incoronata, located there. Since December 2014, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities has been managing it through the Basilicata Museum Complex, which in December 2019 became the Regional Museum Directorate.

The castle of Bernalda rises in the homonymous locality , in the province of Matera. The castle is located in a dominant position on the Basento valley facing south-west. It was built in 1470 but recent discoveries trace the presence of a fortification back to the Norman era and the shape of its towers suggests that it was even of Angevin origin . The current castle is the one built by Bernardino de Bernaudo, secretary of King Alfonso II of Naples.

The Bradano is one of the main rivers of Basilicata: it is the third in length with 120 km of course after the Basento and the Agri, but the first for the breadth of its catchment area. The Bradano River was historically used as a natural border between different entities. In particular, it represented the border between the Terra d'Otranto and Lucania until 1663. In Roman times, however, the river had represented the administrative border between the Augustan region of Apulia and that of Lucani

Montalbano Jonico is an Italian town of 7 057 inhabitants in the province of Matera in Basilicata. On 2 April 2009, the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano awarded the town of Montalbano Jonico with the honorary title of city. Some courses and services of the University of Magna Græcia of Catanzaro have been based. The reconstruction of the historic site of the houses in Via de Albertino is currently underway, as well as the opening of new construction sites in the center.

This is the most outstanding, intact example of a troglodyte settlement in the Mediterranean region, perfectly adapted to its terrain and ecosystem. The first inhabited zone dates from the Palaeolithic, while later settlements illustrate a number of significant stages in human history. Matera is in the southern region of Basilicata.

The Bosco Pantano di Policoro oriented nature reserve is a protected natural area located in the municipalities of Policoro and Rotondella, in the province of Matera. The reserve covers an area of 500 hectares and was established in 1999, 21 of which are oases of WWF Italy called "WWF Policoro Herakleia". The reserve includes the site of community interest (SIC) “Bosco Pantano di Policoro and Costa Ionica Foce Sinni”.
