About Lake Campotosto

The artificial lake of Campotosto, situated in the province of L'Aquila, was created in order to produce electrical energy and is the largest lake in Abruzzo. The lake is reachable via the Italian State Highway 80 from either L'Aquila or the Adriatic Coast. Smaller roads lead to Capitignano, Montereale and Amatrice.The ecosystem of the Reserve is favorable to the permanence of migratory birds such as the wind duck, the bald coot, and the greater grebe.
