This is just one of the Luwak coffee plantations amongst many others which are scattered across Ubud, Bali. Luwak coffee or locally called Kopi Luwak is one of the most expensive coffee found across the world and this is entirely because of its unconventional processing. The Luwak coffee is brewed out of coffee beans which have been digested by a palm civet or also known as civet cat which are quite commonly found in this region. This is why kopi luwak is also called cat poop coffee or civet cat coffee. The coffee bean consumed by the cat undergoes fermentation and their digestive enzymes change the structure of proteins in the coffee beans, which removes some of the acidity to make a smoother cup of coffee. The feces from the cat is then collected, dried, washed and further processed alike conventional coffee beans. The coffee plantation also had a glass floored viewing deck facing the terraced paddy fields which makes for a view while sipping the expensive coffee. Other tea and coffee products for tasting and sale. There are also huge swings available for the tourist which are tied to coconut trees and glide high into the paddy fields which I felt were way better than the most advertised Bali swing which is also at the pricier side.
