Japanese are known for their love of pets. You can see variety of such stores where animals (largely birds) are kept unlike what we usually see in zoo's. In an Owl Cafe such as this one in Shibuya, visitors pay for an entry ticket and are allowed to spend a period of time with them. They would advise you on the do's and don't which should be good enough to keep you safe. If you find yourself craving for more of them, you can also ask them to allow you to hold them!
