East Kameng district is situated in the Western part of Arunachal Pradesh surrounded by West Kameng in the west, Papumpare in the East, Part of Lower Subansiri and Macmohan (International Boundary) line in the North and Sonitpur District of Assam in the South covering an area of 4134 sq kms. The entire district barring a small area on the southernmost tip of Assam is mountainous.

Ita Fort is one of the most important historical sites in the state of Arunachal Pradesh was built as early as the 14th or the 15th century by kings of the Chutia dynasty. The fort has an irregular shape, built mainly with bricks dating back to the 14th-15th Century. The total brickwork is of 16,200 cubic metre lengths which was probably built by kings of the Chutiya kingdom which ruled the region during that time. The fort has three different entrances at three different sides.

Sela Pass lake is a high-altitude mountain pass located on the border between the Tawang and West Kameng Districts of Arunachal Pradesh state in India. It has an elevation of 4170 m (13,700 ft) and connects the Indian Buddhist town of Tawang to Dirang and Guwahati. The pass carries the National Highway 13 connecting Tawang with the rest of India.

A 40- foot high multi-hued memorial, Tawang War Memorial is dedicated to the war heroes (soldiers of the Indian Army) of the Sino-India war that took place in the year 1962. Also known as Namgyal Chorten, the structure is similar to the design of a huge stupa. Overlooking the Tawang-Chu valley, this memorial was constructed to remember the sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Indian Army. This memorial that is placed on a slope was visited by Dalai Lama in the year 1997.
