The clock tower was constructed to commemorate James W. W. Birch, the first British Resident of the state of Perak and unveiled in 1909. It has a mother bell and four smaller bells which used to strike the chimes.
The historical complex sits in the traditional Malay houses. It features various memorials erected to honor Malaysian heroes, as well as a watchtower, stage, cannon, etc.
The Taiping War Cemetery is the final resting place for Allied personnel who were killed during World War II, particularly the Malayan Campaign and the Japanese occupation of Malaya. There are more than 850 World War II casualties commemorated in this cemetery, including more than 500 who remain unidentified.
