Navajo County

Navajo County is in the northern part of the U.S. state of Arizona. It contains parts of the Hopi Indian reservation, the Navajo Nation, and Fort Apache Indian Reservation, one of the largest contiguous ponderosa pine forest in North America.

Camel Butte

Camel Butte is a peak in Arizona and has an elevation of 5617 feet. Camel Butte is situated nearby to The Tumb. it is one of Monument Valley's signature landmarks.

Cly Butte

Cly Butte is a peak in Arizona and has an elevation of 5,794 feet. It is situated nearby to North Window Overlook, and close to The Thumb Overlook.

Ear of the Wind

Ear of the Wind is a pothole natural arch eroded in DeChelly sandstone. It is one of several nice arches which are included in the commercial Monument Valley tours that go to the area south of the self-guided loop drive. This arch is within the boundaries of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park and a Navajo guide is required for any visitation.

Elephant Butte

Elephant Butte is a physical feature in Navajo County. easy route. This is a great road to explore the backcountry, and has great camping and hiking opportunities along the way. There are also lots of boulders and rock formations to see.

Hangman Trail

The Hangman Trailhead & FR 86 provides access to this trail. This trail follows areas affected by the 2002 Rodeo-Chediski Fire.A very nice trail, at the beginning quite flowig, later steeper. In the first section there are two medium-sized ramps. Tehre are also so many things to see and do which is quiet interesting and also there are so many things to see also.

Hogan

A hogan is the primary, traditional dwelling of the Navajo people. Other traditional structures include the summer shelter, the underground home, and the sweat house. A hogan can be round, cone-shaped, multi-sided, or square; with or without internal posts; timber or stone walls and packed with earth in varying amounts or a bark roof for a summer house, with the door facing east to welcome the rising sun for wealth and good fortune.

Homolovi State Park

Homolovi State Park is located in the high desert of Northern Arizona a few miles from Winslow. The featured attraction of the Park includes the ruins of ancestral Anasazi/Hopi Villages. There is a year-round campground, restrooms with showers and an RV dump station.

John Ford Point

John Ford's Point is a vantage point in Monument Valley.The vantage point was named after director John Ford. He shot nine movies in Monument Valley, which is why it is often called John Ford's Country. This ledge was often used as a camera location in his films. Today it is a popular excursion destination, from here you have a great view into the red desert of Monument Valley.

John Wayne Point

John Wayne's Point is a scenic viewpoint in Arizona. John Wayne's Point is situated nearby to The View Restaurant, and close to Photographers Point.

Long Logs Trail

Long Logs Trail in Petrified Forest National Park has a few cool things to see. The first is a bunch of long petrified logs. It is one of the greatest concentrations of in-tact petrified logs in the Park. Trees over 100' long were stripped of their branches by ancient rivers and eventually came together within this vicinity.

Los Caballos is one of the longest trails in the White Mountain Trail System.The trail is generally along tall Ponderosa pine trees.This is a popular trail for backpacking, hiking, and horseback riding, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.

Merrick Butte

A majestic Butte located in Monument Valley and is part of the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, similar to its neighbors West and East Mitten Buttes just to the north. It is one of the iconic attraction in this area and also there are so many things to see.

This is a delightful hike through a healthy pine forest filled with great views from the Mogollon rim. It is a rugged escarpment that forms the southern limit of the Colorado Plateau. It extends across the entire forest and provides excellent views within Plateau Country and Desert Canyon Country as well.

Monument Valley

Monument Valley is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft above the valley floor. It is located on the Utah-Arizona state line, near the Four Corners area. The valley is a sacred area that lies within the territory of the Navajo Nation Reservation, the Native American people of the area, and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163.

Monument Valley Tribal Park Visitor Center

A majestic historic location in Northern Arizona, Monument Valley’s collection of crimson mesas and towering sandstone buttes captures colors that appear only in nature. The astonishing scenic beauty of the pristine desert landscape also reflects the reverence Arizona’s tribal communities have for the land. It is maintained as a visitor attraction by Navajo Nation Parks & Recreation. Visitors are welcome to drive the 17-mile dirt loop, Valley Drive, on self-guided tours of the valley.

Mystery Valley

It is a section of Monument Valley that is only accessible by visitors who have a Navajo guide. This is probably for the best because there are several sensitive archeological sites, several Navajo families whose homes are in the area and do not want to be disturbed, and perhaps most importantly, the roads are very poor with deep sand and no signage at all.
