About Gelderland

The Kruittoren is a remnant of the old ramparts of Nijmegen and is located on the Parkweg , on the edge of the Kronenburger Park . The tower was founded in 1426 and is about 30 meters high. In the nineteenth century , when the fortifications were sold, the state deliberately kept the tower in ownership to prevent the tower from being demolished. The tower was owned by the Government Buildings Agency until January 15, 2016 , but was then transferred to the National Monuments Organization.

Lancaster Memorial

A majestic memorial that commemorates the crew of the British Avro Lancaster LM325 SR-J that crashed on the spot during the night of 22 to 23 June 1943 in World War II. The bomber belonged to the No. 101 Squadron of the RAF. Six of the seven crew lost their lives.

The Waal is the main distributary branch of the river Rhine flowing approximately 80 km (50 mi) through the Netherlands. It is the major waterway connecting the port of Rotterdam to Germany. Before it reaches Rotterdam, it joins with the Afgedamde Maas near Woudrichem to form the Boven Merwede. Along its length, Nijmegen, Tiel, Zaltbommel and Gorinchem are towns of importance with direct access to the river.

The park will be laid out in large parts around the de Linge waterway , giving the canal a more animal-friendly character, partly because the steep quays are being replaced by sloping banks.

Located in the municipality of Overbetuwe , between the Arnhem district of De Laar and the Overbetuwe village of Elst . It is part of Park Lingezegen. The area consists of two lakes that have been created by sand extraction since the late 1970s and is named after the hamlet that was located nearby until the construction of the Arnhem district of Rijkerswoerd.
