Lower Austria

Lower Austria is one of the nine states of Austria, located in the northeastern corner of the country. It offers an incredible variety of nature and culture. With a land area of 19,186 km2 and a population of 1.612 million people, Lower Austria is the country’s largest state; it is second-most populous after the federal state of Vienna. Other main cities are Amstetten, Krems an der Donau and Wiener Neustadt.

Aussichtsturm Naturpark Hohe Wand

A majestic nature park located in the heart of Austria. The stately lookout tower on the Schwarzenberg is the heart of the Nordwald Nature Park and climbs 21 meters to compete with the tops of the surrounding conifers. At 960 m above sea level, visitors can see far over the extensive forest area on the edge of the Waldviertel highlands.

Blockheide-Eibenstein Nature Park

The Blockheide is a protected area near Gmünd in northwestern Waldviertel in the Austrian state of Lower Austria. It is a varied heather landscape including meadows, mixed woods, small lakes and small fields.It is famous for its far-flung giant granite blocks, among them some Rocking stones.A nature park with the name Naturpark Blockheide-Eibenstein has been established in the area.

Bucklige Welt

The Bucklige Welt is a landscape primarily in the southeast of Lower Austria at the border triangle of Lower Austria, Burgenland and Styria and secondarily also including small adjoining parts of the two neighboring federal states. Due to its topography, this landscape is also known as the land of 1000 hills .

Föhrenberge Nature Park

The Föhrenberge Nature Park is located on the eastern edge of the Vienna Woods in Lower Austria . It is one of the recreational areas of Vienna . The 6,500 hectare nature park extends from Perchtoldsdorf in the north to Gumpoldskirchen . In between are the municipal areas of Gießhübl , Maria Enzersdorf , Mödling , Hinterbrühl and Gaaden . The nature park is freely accessible.

Fontana Golf Club

Fontana Leisure Parks, one of Pampanga’s golf courses, was built in 2012. This unique establishment has found very early success as it is such a young course. It sits within one of today’s largest and modernized leisure parks in the country. The short 9-hole course has only 1,896 yards was designed over rolling terrains, which helps to add a bit of challenge to the course even if you are not a beginner.

Höllental

The Höllental in Lower Austria is a narrow valley between the steep limestone massifs of the Schneeberg and Rax through which the River Schwarza flows. It stretches for a total of 16.5 km between Schwarzau im Gebirge and Hirschwang and, because of its natural beauty, it belongs to the Natura 2000 region of Northeastern Border Alps. Because the valley is a popular tourist destination, there are several restaurants along the road.

Muckenkogel

Muckenkogel is a part of the Gutensteiner Alps in the Austrian province of Lower Austria. Rising 4095 feet above sea level, the mountain is one of several close to the historic city of Lilienfeld. Today it is of historical significance due to the Czech-born ski pioneer Mathias Zdarsky. On March 19, 1905 the first official Alpine Ski Race was held on Muckenkogel. It was won by Zdarsky. Today, the mountain is a spot for hiking, mountain biking, as well as paragliding.

The founding of the nature park prevented a planned dam power plant on the Erlauf between Trübenbach and Eibenboden and thus also a significant encroachment on the region.

Schloss Gobelsburg is a historic winery, owned by a Cistercian monastery and possessing wonderful old vineyards in the Kamptal region. This is one of the three top quality Danube areas of Austria and altogether has just 2500 hectares of vines.

Wachau

The Wachau is a UNESCO world heritage site and region of natural beauty, and lies in the Danube valley between the towns of Melk and Krems. This beautiful Austrian valley with a picturesque landscape formed by the Danube river. It is 36 kilometres in length and was already settled in prehistoric times. A well-known place and tourist attraction is Dürnstein, where King Richard the Lionheart of England was held captive by Duke Leopold V of Austria and Styria.
