The Matese regional park is a protected natural area of Campania established by regional law n. 33 of 1993. It only came into operation in 2002. The park covers an area of 33,326.53 hectares. The park's territory mainly includes the Matese mountain massif. The highest limestone mountains are Mount Miletto (2050m asl), Mount Gallinola and Mount Mutria. The park takes its name from the Matese lake, while another important lake is that of Gallo with the park being crossed by two rivers: the Tite
The upstream Mutria is a top of the Matese . It is located on the border between Molise and Campania. It has a long terminal ridge on the east - west axis , about 5 km long, consisting of seven limestone ridges that appear bare and with outcropping rocks. Between one rump and the other there are large clearings and meadows, used for grazing sheep and horses in the summer months. Lower down there are large beech woods that become more and more dense as you go down.
The MAB nature reserve of Collemeluccio-Montedimezzo is a protected natural area located in the municipality of Pescolanciano, in the province of Isernia. The reserve occupies an area of 347 hectares. It was established in 1971 and is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, awarded the international qualification assigned by UNESCO for the conservation and protection of the environment, within the program on Man and the Biosphere - MAB.
The Cascate del Verde regional nature reserve and WWF OASIS is a protected natural area located in the municipality of Borrello, in the province of Chieti. The reserve includes an area of approximately 287 hectares and was established in 2001. The rocky walls on which the waterfalls develop and the surrounding ones are covered by perfectly Mediterranean vegetation.
The Abetina di Rosello nature reserve is a protected natural area located in the municipalities of Rosello and Agnone, in the provinces of Chieti and Isernia respectively and was established in 1997. The vegetation of the reserve was the main cause of its establishment. Several flaps fir spontaneous develop some of which Abruzzo and Molise appenine, very important for the preservation of certain plant diversity and plant communities elsewhere now mostly disappeared or severely degraded.
