A 438 square kilometers tract of relatively undisturbed lowland dipterocarp forest. It has an extensive diversity of tropical flora and fauna, including the rare East Sumatran rhinoceros, Bornean orangutans, gibbons, mousedeer, clouded leopards and over 270 bird species.
Gaya is the largest island in the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park and is covered with dense tropical forest. Several ridges rise more than 600 feet (180 m), peaking at 1,000 feet (300 m), along the backbone of Gaya Island.
Out of the five islands making up Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, Manukan Island is the most popular island and features the most developed tourist facilities. It is covered in dense vegetation and has hiking trails.
The springs are known for their therapeutic properties and the waters with their sulphuric minerals are reputed to ease aching muscles. The baths are favored by returned climbers of Mount Kinabalu.
