Border Field State Park is a state park of California, United States, containing beach and coastal habitat on the Mexico–United States border. The park is within the city limits of Imperial Beach in San Diego County, next to the suburb of Playas de Tijuana in Mexico. It contains the southernmost point in the state of California.
Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve is beautiful year-round, with an ecosystem unlike any other in San Diego County. The park encompasses some 4,000 acres of both Peñasquitos and Lopez canyons, and is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. The preserve is jointly owned and administered by the City of San Diego and the County of San Diego.
Mission Trails Regional Park is one of the largest urban parks in the country, providing opportunities for recreation as well as native flora and fauna viewing.The park is also home to a 14,000-square-foot, award-winning Visitor & Interpretive Center. The park consists mostly of rugged canyons and hills, with both natural and developed recreation areas, including many beautiful flowers.
San Diego Bay is a recreational haven that attracts boaters from all over the world. Considered to be one of the best natural harbors on the west coast of North America, it was colonized by Spain beginning in 1769. San Diego Bay remains as a home port of major assets, including several aircraft carriers, of the United States Pacific Fleet, and as a result of base closures beginning in the 1980s, facilities in San Diego Bay are the major naval base facilities still in operation in California.
The Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve is one of 30 Reserves in the United States. It encompasses the Tijuana River Estuary, located on the Mexico–United States border. This reserve is a good place for bird-watching since as many as 370 bird species. Visitors of all ages can come to the visitor center for activities. Among the activities are videos that can be shown upon request, and it is shown in both English and Spanish.
