The North Tripura District started functioning after recognition of the district as on 26-12-2011. The newly created district was officially inaugurated on 13-01-2012. The geographical area of the district is 1422.19 sq K.M. North Tripura District is mostly hilly and shares boundary with Assam 53 K.M and Mizoram 109 K.M and international boundary with Bangladesh 96 K.M of which Dharmanagar Sub-Division shares -44 K.M and Kanchanpur- 52 K.M.

Jampui Hills is a hill range located in the North Tripura district in the north eastern part of the Indian state of Tripura. The average altitude of the hill range is approximately 1000 metres above sea level. There are 10 small villages in Jampui hills and most of the inhabitants are the Mizo community.
