The Petrified Wood Gas Station was built in 1927 by brothers Frank and Bert Goss. The gas station was constructed out of petrified wood, which the brothers had collected from the nearby Picketwire Canyon. The Petrified Wood Gas Station quickly became a popular destination for tourists, who came to see the unique structure and take photos of the scenic canyon. In addition to serving as a gas station, the Petrified Wood Gas Station also served as a trading post and general store. The brothers operated the gas station until Frank's death in 1945. Bert continued to run the business until his own death in 1972. Today, the Petrified Wood Gas Station is a registered historic landmark, and it continues to attract visitors from all over the world.
