Wildhorse Peak is a beautiful mountain in Ouray County, Colorado. The peak is named for the wild horses that used to roam the area. According to legend, the horses were brought to the area by Spanish explorers and left behind when the explorers returned to Spain. For many years, the horses roamed free on the mountain, until they were finally captured and taken to a reservation. Today, visitors to Wildhorse Peak can still see some of the descendants of those original wild horses. The mountain is also popular with hikers and climbers, who come to enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The average time to reach the summit via this trail is four to six hours.

From Ouray, travel east on Highway 550 for about six miles to the turn-off for Camp Bird Road (County Road 361). Follow this road for another four miles as it switchbacks up the mountain. At the top of the pass, you will come to a fork in the road. Take the left fork, which leads to Yankee Boy Basin. From here, continue following the signs to Wildhorse Peak. 

There is no entrance fee to hike Wildhorse Peak in Ouray County, Colorado. However, there is a parking fee of $5 per day or $30 per season.
