Mount Ida - 4 Things to Know Before Visiting

Timber Lake is a typical Rocky Mountain National Park day hike destination, situated on the slightly less busy west side of the mountains and reached by a 4.6 mile path starting from a large trailhead in Kawuneeche Valley, along US 34 just before the start of the steep climb towards Trail Ridge. Eventually, the trail enters a beautiful meadowland where moose and elk are frequent encounters. Soon after, Timber Lake Trail will cross the sometimes roaring Beaver Creek via an elevated bridge.

Farview Curve Overlook is the first roadside pullout and scenic viewpoint on Trail Ridge Road when traveling from the Kawuneeche Visitor Center near the western national park entrance and Grand Lake, Colorado. Enjoy sweeping views of the Kawnueeche Valley and the Never Summer Range from this spectacular overlook.

Lake Irene is a small picturesque subalpine lake with an easy 1.0 mile loop trail with little elevation change around its banks. It is one of the beautiful picnic location and also there are trekking ways and fishing is possible here.

Tundra Communities is rated as a short, family-friendly trail but don’t think it’s an easy walk in the park. Near the top of Trail Ridge Road at Rock Cut, the trailhead sits at 12,110 feet in elevation. This tree-less land is tumbled with lichen-covered rock shards and a crust of low-growing greenery and wildflowers.

The Holzwarth Historic Site is located in the Rocky Mountain National Park near the west entrance. It comprises a series of cabins built by the Holzwarth family as a guest ranch inholding within the boundaries Rocky Mountain National Park, at Grand Lake, Colorado.The district comprises a number of rustic cabins on the Colorado River. Operations existed on both sides of the river, first known as the Holzwarth Trout Ranch and later as the Never Summer Ranch.

Big Meadows is located in the San Juan Mountains in south-central Colorado. The campground is lightly wooded with spruce trees, creating a beautiful meadow atmosphere. As a sub-alpine region, the campground gets more snow melt and rainfall than the opposite side of the lake, resulting in plentiful wildflowers and aspens surrounding the campsites.
