About Museum Het Joodse Schooltje
The Jewish School is a former school building for Jews in the Groningen village of Leek . It has been functioning as a museum and memorial since 1995.The first Jewish inhabitant of Leek is mentioned in 1705 and more followed in the course of the 18th century. By 1783, the Jewish population had grown so much that a cemetery was established. The Jewish School was built in 1855 on the street 'Boveneind'. Jewish children were taught the Hebrew language and religious education.
